It might be widely known as the land of a thousand hills and million smiles, but Rwanda might also soon acquire another captivating reputation – the land of valentines. On the day lovers the world over celebrate Valentine’s Day, the country has been ranked highly in love matters, emerging second globally and top on the African continent. According to a survey by the respected Gallup polling firm, Rwandans experience love at 92 per cent, only behind Filipinos, at 93 per cent, with the former topping Africa, followed by Nigeria (84 per cent), which ranks 11th globally. You might think that Paris and Rome are famous for romance, but its Filipinos who get the most love, the US-based polling firm said. The survey, conducted in 136 countries, posed the question: “Did you experience love for a lot of the day yesterday?” In Rwanda, there were 1,495 respondents.
